SecureMac has released version 2.1 of its anti-spyware utility MacScan, adding support for Intel processors as well as a better Spyware Information Library, updated spyware definitions, an integrated update feature, and various bug fixes and performance improvements. This is a free update for existing users. The full software is US$24.95 and requires Mac OS X v10.2.4.

Apparently the author has done some questionable things to clear the negative reviews on VersionTracker (ie: submitting the new version as a different program). Someone did a test of the software, and apparently it doesn't even detect most of the programs it claims it does. I wouldn't touch this with a 10' pole, even if there was a need for this type of program on the Mac.

Currently we are pretty secure from web based infections, but not from inside jobs. In a multi-user environment, someone with malicious intent, and who has access to your computer, can install spyware. Probably not a problem at home, but where industrial spying is a concern this could be a handy program.
QuoteLOL, you're kidding, right? What spyware?? We are talking about OS X right? Sure someone could write some custom little spy app to carry out this "industrial spying" but how on Earth would you expect this program (ignoring the fact that it apparently doesn't actually do anything) to detect some custom program that nobody knows about?!? Dude what is wrong with you?Al Swearengen wrote:Quotedlstarr7 wrote:

I think you did indirectly answer the guy's question though. Or I should say you made his point. This application is not needed (again assuming it actually did anything in the first place).
On a related note, I have recently finished changing the name of my OS X "Hello World" application to "Spyware Destructor Pro". I ran it and I have no spyware on my Mac! So it works!

Or maybe your program doesn't work at all and you just don't know it!

Maybe that was the joke.
