Apple Speed Bumps MacBook Pro

Apple Speed Bumps MacBook Pro

by , 9:40 AM EDT, May 16th, 2006

Along with the release of the MacBook, Apple bumped up the processor speed of the 15-inch MacBook Pro on Tuesday. The 1.83GHz model has been upgraded to 2.0GHz, and the 2.0GHz model is now 2.16GHz. The prices remain the same at US$1,999, and $2,499 respectively. The glossy display, which is standard on the MacBook and offers greater color saturation, is also a free built-to-order option on the 15 and 17-inch MacBook Pro. The Apple Store shows the faster MacBook Pro models as shipping in 24 hours.

I'll have to see it in person. Every other company has been making these glossy screens for awhile now but I'm not sure I like them.

I think Appple has made it an option because photographers and others who depend on color may not like these things. I suspect they "look cool" but mess you up when trying to judge image quality.

At least it's optional instead of standard.

one thing I love about my 17" laptop is the fact that its NOT glossy. Who needs the glare? The higher the gloss, the worse the glare. Even the Apple.com picture of their glossy screen has glare... albeit photoshopped in.

My sister has a glossy screen on her 17' Dell, and while it looks lovely coupled with a very high end graphics card, she can't use it with any nearby task lighting.

It also shows every speck of dust, every fingerprint and every bit of dirt.

Matte finish is definitely the way to go.
