NYC Apple Elevator Malfunctions
NYC Apple Elevator Malfunctions
by , 1:25 PM EDT, May 30th, 2006
A group of teenagers visiting the new Apple flagship store in New York City spent about 45 minutes longer at the store than they planned after the elevator doors malfunctioned. When the doors opened at street level, one person stepped out, and then the doors closed, trapping everyone else inside. The escapee, who goes by RaNeX on her blog, snapped a few photos and chronicled the incident for her friends.
Apple employees were able to drop water bottles in through a roof access panel while the shoppers waited for their rescue.
After officers from the New York Police Department arrived, the hydraulic lines for the elevator were slowly bled out so that the elevator would lower back to the main store level. Officers pried the doors open and helped the stranded shoppers out as the elevator continued a slow descent into the basement.
A couple of people did burn their hands on lights while climbing out of the elevator, but everyone else escaped unscathed.
The elevator is currently tagged as out of order, so you'll have to buy an iPod or MacBook if you aren't up to carrying a Power Mac G5 up the stairs.

Waiting in a line for 45 minutes at K-Mart?
Our elevator in our building drops floors routinely with people. It is over 30 years old now. Elevators break. They're expensive as hell to maintain, even when brand new. This one's been in operation what, 2 weeks now. I would call this a normal part of the breaking in period.

No, no. Guest was trying to be funny. Recently TMO seems to have become a venue for a bunch of self-esteem starved creative writing wannabes. It's painful, but unfortunately you must put up with their awkward combinations of english words for the time being.
As far as the actual news story goes, me think Mr. Jobs is gonna be mighty pissed at the elevator company! I would NOT wanna be the guy who gets that phone call!

Well, Biff, I suppose similar nice things could be said about you, with your penchant for adolescent name-calling of others. Clearly, that post was a play on words, and there was nothing awkward about it. You take yourself far too seriously.
As for what "the time being" is supposed to me is anybody guess. I suppose you're going to advocate banning from the site all puns or writing you, in your lofty opinion, deem to be too "painful" or "creative."
