Google Video Player for the Mac

Google Video Player for the Mac

by , 10:05 AM EDT, June 7th, 2006

Google released a Mac version of its video player application on Tuesday. The player application is a Universal Binary, allowing it to run natively on PowerPC and Intel-based Macs, and works with the Google Video Service so that you can buy and download Google premium programming. It also lets you play videos in full screen mode, and browse scenes using thumbnail images.

Subject: More software for Mac

I do not know how good this player is as I have not even tried the Windows version - but it is good to see a major company like Google offering Mac support. It can only help shut the "They don't make it for Mac" or "There is no software for the Mac" excuses up.

Now if only Yahoo, etc. follow suit. I'm sick of platform warning popups when visiting sites using platform-independent Java and other webtech.

I so do not want yet another player! How do I convert this GCrap back to Quicktime?

If you go to video.google.com, you can save them all directly as qt/iPod videos.

Subject: google not making enough mac programs

Somebody started this great google group that I would like to support called GoogleMac found at:
http://groups.google.com/group/googlemac
right now it is classified as "adult" but it has been requested to google that this be changed and the request is "pending" so it should be a normal group soon enough. Thanks for supporting mac!
