SoonR Remote Computer Access for the Mac

SoonR Remote Computer Access for the Mac

by , 1:00 PM EDT, June 22nd, 2006

SoonR announced a beta version for the Mac of its SoonR remote computer access service on Thursday. The SoonR services lets you use your cell phone to remotely access information from your computer. It supports secure Spotlight searches, accessing and sharing documents, placing phone calls via Skype, and works with most cell phone models. The SoonR Desktop and SoonR Talk services are available for the Mac now, and SoonR Organizer support will be available in August.

SoonR is available for download at the SoonR Web site. The basic service, which includes photo and document access and sharing is free. Pricing for the Premium service, which includes access even when the host computer is turned off, encrypted data backup, and low cost international calling, is not yet available.

So you could use your cell phone...to call your Mac...to call somebody else using Skype? Why not just, you know, call them on your cell phone? You're already using your minutes.

I guess it could be be useful for international phone calls?

Not everyone has "free" long-distance calling on their cell phones. I use my cell phone locally. It has "free" calls within the state, but not nationwide. That would about double my cost/month.
