10.4.7 Update Adds Two-finger Control-click

10.4.7 Update Adds Two-finger Control-click

by , 12:15 PM EDT, June 29th, 2006

The Mac OS X 10.4.7 update contained a pleasant surprise for MacBook Pro owners: Two-finger right-clicking is now an option. The feature can be enabled in the Keyboard & Mouse Preference Pane by checking Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click. The undocumented addition is good news for users that are slowed down by having to use the Control key when right-clicking, and for lefties since there is no Control key on the right side of the keyboard.

[Thanks to Hugh Gyetvai for pointing out the new feature.]

This feature has been there for at least a month. If only they'd add it to the Powerbook...

Gah, I couldn't agree more. (Yes the feature has been there for new installs & OS ports from MacBooks but not the originals.) There's a hack out there that adds the feature for 2003-2004 Powerbooks (along with 2-finger scrolling), but nothing for the 2005-2006 Powerbooks! (http://iscroll2.sourceforge.net/)

We poor unfortunate souls are sandwiched in the middle. It stands to reason if you can program a 2-finger control-click for older trackpads, you can program one for newer. Yes, I'd paypal over at least $10 for this "feature".

I really hope someone with the programming moxie will fill the gap.

Actually, it's new on everything but the 17" MBPro. The 15" didn't have this until 10.4.7.
