iPiece Magnifies Section of Display

iPiece Magnifies Section of Display

by , 12:00 AM EDT, July 13th, 2006

Old Jewel Software has released iPiece, a utility that magnifies an area of the screen next to the user's mouse cursor. It places the magnified section next to the mouse cursor, so the user can read it, and it can be switched on or off through the menu bar. Pricing is US$9.95 and Mac OS X v10.4 is required.

Good idea.

Not quite the same--in fact, almost not at all the same, as you will see if you check out the developer's page and screenshots. The OS X hot-key zoom magnifies the entire screen, so you can see only a small portion of the screen at a time. iPiece, on the other hand, magnifies a portion of the screen near the cursor, like putting a magnifying glass to the screen. You continue to see the rest of the screen as normal. The magnified image does not cover the area being magnified. It would be of great use for artists as well as those needing a bit of help reading the screen.
