No Keynote for Apple Expo Paris
No Keynote for Apple Expo Paris
by , 11:55 AM EDT, August 18th, 2006
The Apple Expo in Paris will kick off without a keynote address this year. According to Macworld UK, the decision did not come from Reed Expositions France, the company that is organizing the event.
In prior years, Steve Jobs has presented a keynote speech at the event. In 2004, however, Phil Schiller gave the presentation while Mr. Jobs was recovering from cancer surgery. Mr. Jobs did not present at the 2005 expo, either.
It's unclear if Apple's executives aren't giving a keynote because of France's recent legislation designed to open competing digital rights management technologies so that all music download services are compatible with any MP3 player, or if the company simply doesn't have any new product announcements scheduled for that time. Apple will, however, be present at the expo.
Apple Expo Paris is scheduled to run from September 12 through September 16.

I favor Bertrand Serlet for the Apple Paris Expo keynote address. Bertrand's French connection seems appropriate for this venue. He performed well at the 2006 WWDC. The European Union may like to see Apple leadership beyond USA centric representatives.
