iMac Core 2 Duo RAM Upgrades from Trans International

by , 7:55 AM EDT, September 18th, 2006

Trans International announced the immediate availability of 2GB and 3GB RAM upgrade kits for Apple's Intel Core 2 Duo-based iMacs on Monday. The 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM SO-DIMM memory chips are compatible with the 1.83GHz, 2.0GHz, and 2.16GHz iMacs, and comply with Apple's electrical and mechanical guidelines. The 2GB RAM upgrade kits are priced at US$249, and the 3GB kits are $789. They are available at the Trans International Web site.

This is a surprise. Apple memory costs less. (Assuming you're getting the memory when you order the iMac).
2Gb $175
3Gb $750

I used to assume that Apple always would have the highest priced memory around.

It is amazing that Apple is cheaper.

The pricing anomaly is caused by the extremely high prices for 2 GB memory sticks.
For example, Crucial wants $1650 for a single 2GB stick! That price is up from $1400 2 weeks ago.

I ordered my iMac 24-inch with 2GB and will upgrade to 3 GB when the price is more reasonable.
