Microsoft and Wallop Launch Social Network Site
by , 12:55 PM EDT, September 27th, 2006
Microsoft jumped into the social network scene on Tuesday with its Wallop site. Wallop, which is a spin off from Microsoft, claims to offer a different business model thanks to its combination invitation-only social networking and marketplace product. The company hopes to distance itself from social networking power houses like MySpace and FaceBook by offering what it claims is an easier to use interface, and an advertisement free environment.
Revenue for the site will come from the sale of site Flash-based plug-ins, or Mods, to subscribers. By offering these Mods, the company hopes to offer an easier to use site builder than MySpace or FaceBook.

On the contrary, as your definition shows, it means to deliver the smack down. Clearly M$ is hoping to take down MySpace &al with this service, and frankly, between Bill Gates and Rupert Murdoch, I don't know whom to pity.
As much as I fear Microsoft bungling this move like so many others, I'm in favor of anything that will give MySpace a competitive kick in the keister. Their interface and infrastructure are among the worst I've ever seen, and their ads are pervasive and obnoxious.
So... um... I'm not entirely sure how to say this. Here goes: "Go Microsoft! Let's knock this one out of the park! I.... believe... in you."
/sarcasm
Wallop... great, another networking solution... and this one's by Microsoft.

Okay, so... what's wrong with Facebook, and how in hell can Microsoft claim they will have a better interface than it? We all know MySpace sucks... so put the spotlight on Facebook, not on another attempt by Microsoft to claim every market in the world.
