Parallels Desktop RC2 Update Removes 2GB RAM Limit

by , 4:20 PM EDT, September 28th, 2006

Parallels on Thursday released RC2 (Release Candidate 2) of an update for Parallels Desktop for Mac, removing the 2GB RAM limit previously imposed. The software lets Intel Mac owners run Windows and other operating systems at the same time as Mac OS X, so taking advantage of the up to 16GB of RAM allowed on the new Mac Pro is key to good performance.

Other changes in this update include compatibility with developer builds of Mac OS X v10.5 "Leopard," "experimental support" for Windows Vista, and various bug fixes and performance improvements.

Parallels will ship the final release of the update "in the next few weeks," the company said. Current users should not have to re-install guest OS's or other applications, but they should re-install Parallels Tools after applying RC2 of the update.

The full version of Parallels Desktop For Mac sells for US$79.99. Thanks to MacCentral for the heads-up.
