Dell Losing PC Marketshare
Dell Losing PC Marketshare
by , 7:40 AM EDT, October 19th, 2006
Dell has long been considered the top computer manufacturer in terms of units shipped, but lately has been losing ground to companies like Apple and HP. BusinessWeek reports that for the first time in three years, HP shipped more computers than Dell.
HP managed to outsell Dell enough last quarter to grab 16.3 percent of the personal computer market, beating out Dell's 16.1 percent. Apple showed a 30 percent increase in units shipped, and managed to end the quarter with 6 percent of the U.S. market.
This isn't the first time this year Dell's numbers have dropped below other computer manufacturers. In January, Apple Computer's market cap jumped up over Dell's.

Dell gets Apple to license them their OSX and build Apple Mac minis to Apple's specs.
The End:
Dell survives.
I doubt it, given what Michael Dell has said about Apple over the years. Dell's stock has been sliding downward for quite a while. I wonder how long it will take investors who have lost money to jump ship, sending the stock lower and lower and lower?
Michael finally decides to take his advice for Apple, and sell the company, and refund the money to the shareholders.

Dell: 16.1
HP: 16.3
Flush twice; it's a long way to Dallas.
Mad props to HP from this Mac fanboy. They're a great company. I've never met a mean HP employee, and their products are really good. Especially in the Mac space. I love the fact that they're putting the spurrs to Dull, and making them squeal.
