by , 1:00 PM EDT, October 23rd, 2006

Skype officially released version 2 of its online chat application on Monday. Skype 2.0 features the voice and text chat features found in earlier versions, and adds cross-platform video chat support. You can group chat with up to 100 users, conference call with up to four other people, and exchange files through the Skype service, too.

Skype 2.0 is free and available for download at the Skype Web site. Additional services, like SkypeIn phone numbers that let people call you from regular telephone lines, are also available for a fee.
