ProScope HR Microscope Captures Video, Stills

ProScope HR Microscope Captures Video, Stills

by , 3:45 PM EDT, October 25th, 2006

Tokyo's Scalar Corp. has teamed up with Oregon's Bodelin Technologies to launch ProScope HR, a handheld USB microscope with a 1.3-megapixel imager that can capture stills, video, and time lapse with the included Mac- and Windows-compatible software. It's part of the Scalar Scope line of microscopes, and lenses made for the older ProScope will work with this one.

The two companies also introduced a new US$249 Scalar 400X lens and said that more lenses will be released at a later date. The ProScope HR software included with the microscope is also available as a free download. It offers 320 x 240, 640 x 480, and 1280 x 1024 resolution, and it requires Mac OS X v10.4.8, a G4, G5, or Intel processor, and QuickTime 7. USB 1.1 ports are supported, but they're limited to 640 x 480 and 320 x 240 resolution, at a reduced frame rate.

ProScope HR sells for $349, with a variety of lab kits also available, in addition to a stand ($159), other lenses, and more accessories.
