QuarkXPress Licensing Now Cross-platform

QuarkXPress Licensing Now Cross-platform

by , 5:30 PM EST, November 20th, 2006

Quark announced on Monday that the licensing scheme for QuarkXPress 7 is changing so that a single license will work on both Mac OS X and Windows. The new platform-independent licensing allows users to install QuarkXPress 7 on two computers, regardless of operating system.

The licensing change is a big departure for Quark, which has always used platform-dependent license codes. It also gives QuarkXPress users a financial advantage over Adobe InDesign users since Adobe's applications use platform-dependent licenses.

Quark has been aggressively changing its licensing schemes now that QuarkXPress 7 is shipping. Earlier in November, the company changed its upgrade licensing so that users can run QuarkXPress 6 and a QuarkXPress 7 upgrade license on the same computer.

Do you purchase an OSX and Windows package for the same price and use the same activation code?

I looked on their web site for an answer, but couldn't even find a press release about this new policy.

No, it means that when you opt for the Mac/Win version (which is a choice in their online store), or if you already have copies for both platforms, you can use the same license (serial #) to install from those disks onto both a Mac and a Windows machine simultaneously. One license to cover 2 copies of the software.
