Iomega Launches New Mac Hard Drives

by , 8:20 AM EST, December 20th, 2006

Iomega announced the immediate availability of two new external hard drives for Mac users on Wednesday. The UltraMax Desktop Drive and the Black Portable Hard Drive both come pre-formatted as HFS+ for the Mac instead of using a Microsoft Windows formatting scheme, and include Retrospect Express backup software.

The UltraMax Desktop Drive uses two 7200RPM 500GB SATA hard drives to offer 1TB of storage in a RAID 0 configuration, supports RAID 1, and includes a switch to disable the RAID configurations and use JBOD instead. It connects to your Mac via FireWire 800, FireWire 400, or USB 2.0, includes a built-in USB hub, and comes with cables for each interface. The UltraMax is priced at US$499.95.

The Black Portable Hard Drive includes a 2.5-inch 120GB 5400RPM drive, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 ports, Drop Shock drive mechanism protection, and is bus powered. It is priced at $189.95.
