Apple Starts Pre-Macworld Expo Teasing

Apple Starts Pre-Macworld Expo Teasing

by , 7:45 AM EST, January 2nd, 2007

Apple Computer's Web site is sporting an intriguing image and a hint that big things are in store. The site greets you with "The first 30 years were just the beginning. Welcome to 2007."

A tease, or friendly greeting?.

Maybe just a friendly greeting, or possibly a tease about the company's plans - and new product announcements at Macworld Expo 2007 next week.

Digg!

A bit bold and cocky for my taste. It is a bit un-apple, isn't it? Aren't they supposed to be so secure with their image that they don't have to build a dramatic drum roll to the new year?
Besides.. if we are so welcomed to 2007, it might make 2008 look a bit bleak? You can't do this every year...

my god, you *do* prove that there's always *someone* who's got bitter apple in their mouth.

motherofgod happy new year and look forward to it!

I think it portends the move into the cellphone biz, aka the product formerly called the iPhone. Progressing from iPod nano, to iPod video, why not the iPod phone?

Well going from the rumor's, Apple will be starting their revolutions of both the movie distribution and cell phone industries this year. That's not something they are going to do every year! So I think its understandable if they are a little excited. Plus, building hype helps business. Which helps drive up AAPL. Which is, of course, what Steve's job is.

I think people are reading too much into what appears to be a generic marketing piece. It's not like there's a silhouette of new gadgets in it.

With what? I don't know about you folks, but when I see this image, strains of "Also sprach Zarathustra" start playing in my head...

I have _no_ idea what this could be about, and I certainly personally hope it isn't hinting something about an iPod Phone or some such. It would only "confuse" me even more! However, the set-top box _is_ supposed to be coming, and I suspect that this announcement may be more about that than any phone. Also, I wonder if it also implies some more movie studio deals, linked, not only with iTunes, but more-so the iTV device.

But still, whom do we make contact with?????

Dramatic drum roll? It's their 30 anniversary. They are celebrating by posting a fancy image.. no big deal.

I see what you're saying, the 2001/2010 look is there on this... still...

If it is a "contact with" announcement, I'd guess, each other.. (phone), devices (voice UI for the phone, our Mac, etc), and ourselves (new OS/feature/iApps that make being creative even easier for every Mac user - Hell bring back HyperCard!)

I think it's more Spotlight, a new dawn, type thing myself.. The illustration reminds me of a mix of Time Machine, Spotlight, and the new CoverFlow UI... Leopard will be center stage here.. iMac or MacPro updates, iLife and iWork updates.. but all of these will flow from Leopard and its features... Perhaps the long awaited mini-tower/mac mini extreme/mac mini Pro... iPodPhone *may* be the "one more thing"... (As I've said elsewhere, 2 ApplePhones, one similar to the Shuffle with a voice UI, and one crackberry pearl like ApplePhone ... on my wishlist..)

You must be new to the Apple scene. They did something similar in 2002.

Dude, this is Apple we’re talking about! Of course they can. You are a newbie, aren’t you!

Subject: This 'Tease' was already mentioned by Steve

Yes it was, but I think during WWDC 2006.

He did say that Apple has a lot of great products in the works for 2007.

Could someone find the quote, I am pretty sure Steve had mentioned in the past that Apple has a lot of great products in the works. Also, remember that we only saw a preview of what Leopard has in store.

I for one look forward to MW'07, should be really interesting. Will watch the stock move just before and after the keynote, it tends to move quite interestingly around these keynotes.

Subject: One more thing concerning the teaser

I would like to add one more note about the so-called teaser. Lest not forget the buggy Itunes that was released a short while ago. Lest not forget the Vista that has come out or is almost out - who cares.

Well, lest not hope Apple rush Leopard out of the cage early, ahem, with a few iTunes like bugs.

For all you newbies out there, let me remind you that Apple released an update that had a few beta like features and the user base felt as though they were there to test it out, in the end the bugs were quickly ironed out.

Anyway I still maintain my excitement with regards to all things Apple. It is the better side, always headed for the light.

Oh and by the way, visit Apple's leopard page and notice the similarity between the teaser graphic and the 'X' logo flying to the light, it's a quicktime sequence. Here is the link, http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/index.html OK OK some of you may say it's not so similar but still.

If we consider the last few months of 2006, the Apple developments weren't very exceptional or special: you got some processor upgrades on the Macs and some Hard Disk upgrades on the iPod. The only products to get big upgrades were the nano and shuffle. So it makes sense that some big things are going to be announced at Macworld.

I think people are reading more into it. They do this kind of thing all the time. I don't think it's meant to be about anything in particular.

30 is a big number. Obviously they're going to say something. What do you expect? "Welcome to 2007. Enjoy more of the same" just lacks zing.
