G-Technology Debuts G-Safe, G-Guard; Ups G-RAID2 to 1.5TB, G-Drive Q to 1TB

G-Technology on Tuesday announced two new products, and upped the capacity of two others, to kick off its presence at this week's Macworld Expo in San Francisco. G-Safe features a hardware RAID 1 controller that mirrors data to two hot-swappable hard drives and offers FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 connectivity, with capacities up to 1TB. It will ship in March with pricing starting at US$599.
G-Guard is a shock-absorbing rubberized skin that fits G-Technology's G-Drive mini hard drive. It comes with a custom FireWire 400 cable that's integrated with the unit, so that it isn't accidentally left behind. It will be available in blue, red, and black when it ships in March for $29.99.
Finally, the company upped the capacity of its G-Drive to 1TB; the new model will ship in the second quarter with a $759 price tag. It offers a pair of FireWire 800 ports, one FireWire 400 port, and USB 2.0 port, and one eSATA port.
In addition, G-Technology introduced a 1.5TB version of its G-RAID2 that's available now for $1,549. It features a pair of 7200RPM SATA II hard drives with 16MB caches in each one, and it offers FireWire 400, FireWire 800, and USB 2.0 connectivity.
The company didn't have product pages on its Web site as The Mac Observer posted this article.

Sat Sep 15, 2007 9:16 pm Subject: g-raid2 doesn't like tthe iMac's Firewire 800, only 400
My new G-Raid2 (500g) mounts then unmounts then mounts then unmounts, continuously, on my iMac 24 (late 2006 model) when using Firewire 800. Firewire 400 works fine, but this won't serve Final Cut Pro rendering. The manual for the earlier G-Raid (not "2") notes - in very small print - that it can't use Firewire 800 on an iMac G5, which was discontinued in early 2006. Well, it doesn't work on my new iMac either. It's a weekend and Apple techs are swamped and G-Techs techs are at the beach!
