Apple Posts New Boot Camp Beta for Vista

by , 5:25 PM EDT, March 28th, 2007

Apple posted a new version of its Boot Camp software on Wednesday. Version 1.2 now supports 32-bit Vista.

The update also includes updated drivers including trackpad, AppleTime, (synch), audio, graphics, modem and iSight camera.

Installation of Vista requires a full version of Vista, not an upgrade: Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate and at least Mac OS X 10.4.6.

The full system requirements, a list of changes in version 1.2, and information on how to upgrade to this version are on the Apple Boot Camp page.

Subject: So much for October

Some bonehead claimed Leopard would be delayed until October so Apple could get Vista running on Bootcamp, or some such garbage like that.

Subject: There is a loophole that can get an upgrade to work

A customer found that you can actually use and upgrade version of Vista to install a full version. The trick is you install the upgrade version but don't register it and then restart and then upgrade the upgrade version. As it turns out the upgrade version also has the full version included in it but if used normally it won't seem like it. This person found out you could do this when his upgrade version from XP crashed and he had to reinstall completely. But of course he only had the upgrade version to do it with.
