Belkin Announces Network USB Hub

Belkin announced its new Network USB Hub on Tuesday. The hub allows multiple computers on a local network to share USB devices without requiring individual workstations to activate sharing. The Network USB Hub includes an Ethernet port and five USB 2.0 ports, supports most USB devices, and supports accessing multiple devices at the same time.

The Belkin Network USB Hub is priced at US$129, and will be available in June. Mac-compatible drivers will be available in September.

Especially for those with older Macs that support USB 1.1, now you have a way of using those inexpensive USB 2.0 external drives. Yes, there's a $130 premimum to use them, but it's a lot cheaper than buying a new Mac.

eh, whats the point? im assuming the ethernet port runs at only 10/100, so you'd only be getting a quarter of the USB 2.0 speed at most. even if it had gigabit, your USB 1.1 mac sure as hell wouldn't.

guest #2 is right, save the $120 and get yourself a better mac.

i'm just scratching my head, trying to develop another use for this thing other than hard drives and printers. belkin should host a contest and give one of these suckers away to the person who comes up with the most practical, yet out of the box use for it.

This is a NETWORK hub. You can use it to allow several computers to use printers, scanners, hard drives, etc., without having any of the computers up sharing. The network connects via the Ethernet port. This can turn any USB printer or scanner into a network device. Normally, those cost $100-200 more than the usual USB devices.
