Snapz Pro Now Universal, Leopard Compatible

by , 12:30 AM EDT, June 22nd, 2007

Ambrosia Software announced on Thursday that its screen recording software, Snapz Pro, has been updated to version 2.1. The new version is a Universal Application and is compatible with the WWDC Leopard Release.

Other improvements include: greatly improved capture performance, support for QuickTime compression sessions -- enabling H.264 multipass encoding, and the (restored) ability to "save later" when post-processing movie captures.

Snapz Pro

Snapz Pro allows the user to record anything on the screen and save it as either q QuickTime movie or a screenshot.

"Snapz Pro X is a quantum leap in video capture technology, adroitly capturing full motion video of anything on your screen at a blistering pace, complete with digital audio, and an optional microphone voiceover. Think of it as a digital video camera for your screen. Snapz Pro X makes short work of making training videos, producing product demos, creating tutorials, archiving streaming video, and anything else you can think of," according to Ambrosia Software.

Snapz Pro X can save screenshots as .bmp, .pict, .gif, .jpg, .png, .tiff, .pdf, or Photoshop files with precise control over image compression.

Snapz Pro 2.1 requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later and is a Universal Application. It is priced at US$29.00 for the image only capture version and US$69.00 for the image plus movie capture version.

I'm sure this is an amazing product, coming from the Ambrosia crew. Didn't they give us Jared, Butcher of Song way back in the day? Nope, just checked. That was Freeverse. Oh well, this should still be amazing. I've been using ScreenRecord from macXware, and frankly, it is buggy and sucky.

Oh yes, tried it out. It rocks. Worth the $69.

Subject: Leopard compatible, yeah right!

Anyone saying they are "Leopard Compatible" at this stage in the game could be setting themselves up for a fall. The final release isn't even out yet for Leopard, and already a whole slew of companies on Versiontracker like to claim to be Leopard compatible. Someone is going to eat humble pie. We have 4 months before it is released, and Apple won't even release a public beta for people to evaluate. Call me a skeptic, but there can always be one more undocumented bug that appears in the final release that causes something somewhere to be incompatible. Until the final release is out, no one should claim to be compatible with it. That's like putting the cart in front of the horse.
