Vertus Announces Fluid Mask 3

Vertus Announces Fluid Mask 3

by , 4:20 PM EDT, July 19th, 2007

Vertus has announced version 3 of its graphics masking software. The new version has a more effective edge detection system as well as a new Smart Blending capability that is unique in the industry.

Fluid Mask is a Photoshop plug-in that allows the graphics designer to isolate images with complex edges such as hair or tree branches.

“Fluid Mask 3 is the most powerful masking tool available today. The accuracy and speed with which this software separates difficult images such as human hair from a background takes image editing to a new level. Based on experience and the feedback we have received we are confident that Fluid Mask 3 is unrivaled in its abilities to perform these detailed functions accurately and efficiently,” said James Carr-Jones, the CEO of Vertus.

Fluid Mask 3 now presents a slider that enables the user to seamlessly switch between "Smart Blending" and standard feather blending. Next, within focused areas, the user may invoke complex edge and special hair blending algorithms, which, for the first time, automatically cut out tricky edges and difficult hair such as highlights and hair with wide color differences.

New version 3 features also include a save option to easily recall edge detection, blending, and resolution options from previous sessions, a speed improvement, up to 40%, based on recognizing multiple processors, and a new Patch system that allows users to make changes affecting a selected localized region without affecting the rest of the image.

A review of Fluid Mask 3 was published at IT-Enquirer on July 15th.

Fluid Mask 3 requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later, works with Adobe CS2, CS3 and Elements and is priced at US$239.00.

Subject: Also a stand-alone app

I got a free upgrade to V3 and it is now not only just a plug-in, but it also comes with a stand-alone application. I bought V2 at MacWorld Expo this year and found it to be real timesaver, especially when cutting out things such as hair strands and fine tree branches.
