by , 7:25 PM EDT, July 31st, 2007

Apple Inc. has begun inviting press to a "Mac focused" product briefing on the Apple campus on August 7th. As is usual for the company, there are no other details being offered. The event starts at 10:00 AM Pacific (1:00 PM Eastern), and The Mac Observer will be on hand to cover the announcement.

Could this be about new iMacs? Maybe a ultra-small MacBook? The Mac Mini may be headed out the door, but that wouldn't be announced by itself like this.

Well, actually it's a camera with an iPod built in.

How about iLife and iWork '07' on top of new iMacs?

What is this "Mac" thing that they're talking about?

Oh! The "Mac" is a computer! I thought Apple only made iPods and phones. Well, I wish them the best of luck with this new direction they'll be taking when they start making computers.

You lot are a funny one.

To read between the lines, "Mac focused" suggests a peripheral or software, but really there is far too little information for that to be anything more than a guess.

In other words, it certainly could be the long-rumored new iMacs.

Yes, I realize I am having it both ways.

Another week of poinging around at Apple's feet waiting. It's just like seeing christmas presents under the tree.

With Marathon on XBLA, Metroid Prime 3 later in the month, and now Apple is announcing a new product I'll most likely want but not have money for?

My head might just explode if anything else too awesome ends up happening this month.
