Sony Introduces HDTV/PC with Blu-ray and 802.11n

Sony has introduced an integrated LCD HDTV and PC with Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 22 inch LCD screen, read-write Blu-ray, 1.3 megapixel camera, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and Cable Card interface.
The computer, which runs Vista Ultimate, features a floating glass design and serves as a computer entertainment center where users can watch and record analog, digital and cable television programming, including premium HD channels. The screen is described as WSXGA+, which is 1680 x 1050 pixels.

The screen can also be wall mounted with an optional VESA mount. A special A/V power switch allows the user to shut down the TV portion while the PC continues to run in the background. The 1.3 megapixel camera and echo-cancelling microphone can be used for video conferencing on a broadband connection.
The PC bears a remarkable resemblance to the new Appls iMacs. One notable exception is that it can display protected Blu-ray titles directly on the display.
The LT standard model is priced at a starting point of about US$1,900, according to Sony while the LT HD model with a Blu-ray Disc optical drive will be priced at about US$2,900. Shipments will start in October.

So. It's a $1,000 premium to add Blu-ray? Without Blu-ray the Sony is $1,900 and with $2,900.
The 22" screen is not 1080i or p. What's with that?
The 24" iMac screen is 1920 x 1200 - which will do 1080p HD nicely. The lesser 24" iMac is $1,800 and the maxed 24" is $2,300.
It's too bad. I really liked Sony stuff - but the products are not so impressive these days.
It seems like Blu-ray is getting squashed lately.
This will give you 1680 x 945p when a 16:9 image is scaled to fit. That's nothing to complain about. $1000 extra for blu-ray is ridiculous (Unless it is a blue ray burner, not just playback.) No word on editing software and AVCHD compatibility? It could beat the Mac on that front, given old FCE and new iMovie.
Seems more like something for _watching_ content rather then _creating_ it the way macs do.

Yeah, I'm with Haywire, this looks like a nice system outside of its inability to render 1080p. Yes, the difference is minute, but if you have "True HD" content (few do) to compare it is evident. I'm a little surprised that Sony didn't at least offer a high-end model for this purpose, as they seem to have taken on the role of unofficial chief pimps for 1080p in the last couple years. Either way I wasn't personally going to buy it at that price point.
Now if Apple would just put out a non-glossy 1080p screen with a built in computer (like an iMac LE or something), then I'd be all over it, even if I had to make payments.
