MacBook/Pro Software Update 1.0 Addresses Journaling Issue

MacBook/Pro Software Update 1.0 Addresses Journaling Issue

by , 7:40 AM EDT, September 25th, 2007

Apple released its MacBook/Pro Software Update 1.0 for the mid 2007-release MacBook and the 2.2 and 2.4GHz 15-inch MacBook Pro on Monday evening. The update enables file system journaling on systems that shipped with the feature turned off.

Apple recommends using file journaling to help prevent file corruption if your Mac is not shut down properly.

Once the update is installed, users need to check their hard drive using Apple's Disk Utility application from the installer disc that shipped with their computer.
  • Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that shipped with your Mac into your computer, and then restart.
  • Press and hold the C key as soon as you hear the startup chime.
  • Select your language, and then choose Installer > Disk Utility.
  • After Disk Utility launches, click the First Aid tab.
  • Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
  • Select your startup hard disk drive volume by clicking on its name.
  • Click the Repair button.
  • To restart your Mac, quit Disk Utility, and then quit Installer.

The update is free and available via Apple's Software Update application, or as a downloadable installer at the Apple Support Web site. Additional information about checking your hard drive after the update is also available.
