Jaman Launches HD Movie Rentals for Mac
Jaman Launches HD Movie Rentals for Mac
by , 5:15 PM EDT, October 1st, 2007
Jaman has launched a service that delivers international and independent films in HD to the Mac desktop with a player, similar to iTunes. An additional feature will allow the user to broadcast those movies to Apple TV, and then on to an HDTV.
Last week, Jaman announced distribution agreements with Dreamachine, Fortissimo, the Trust Film Library, and Fortune Star.

Movies in HD format can be purchased for US$4.99 or rented for $1.99.
"A suitably modified Apple TV supports the Jaman Apple TV plug-in, available now. This plug-in, once loaded, provides a menu option to synchronize with your Jaman media player so that new movies and other media automatically load onto your Apple TV box and are available for viewing through your flat-screen or other home theater display," a Jaman representative told iPO. They also noted that such modifications "need strong tech skills and void the warranty agreement for your [Apple TV] device."
However, for those who simply want to rent or purchase a wide range of independent and international films directly on their Mac, the Jaman player will be a free application. The recommended system is a 1.8 GHz G5 or a 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or better and a video card with 64 MB of VRAM or more and Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
Observer Comments
..I can't find anything on their site I want to watch. I hate it, because they seem to be doing everything right in terms of supporting Macs and the aTV, but I just didn't see a movie I wanted to watch on there. Maybe they'll add some Kung-Fu movies or something later (Ong Bak 2 and 3 with English subtitles, plz) on I can justify giving them 2 bucks for, but oh well.
They do have many classic Shaw Bros titles:

Hey DaiMac,
You can try out Jaman for free. YOur first three rentals are free with registration. We have more movies coming on the site all the time. Also, take a look at what community members are saying about our movies -- you may be surprised and find something great that you had not considered before.
Yes -- its true that we do have DRM on our movies. You don't need to purchase them, though. For just $1.99 you can watch any movie on the site. Also, your first free rentals are free.
As for TV, if you have an AppleTV then we have a solution for getting your videos to TV. Also, if you have an HD set, you can likely plug your Mac directly into it. Finally, we are looking at other solutions to bring our movies to your TV.

Exploring new sources of movies and music reminds me of the times when I first ventured out of my back yard into a world that was greater than what I had known up until then.
Great art is international. Enjoy some fine movies at a reasonable prices. On another note, I've learned those that criticize are lazy, they're not producing for others to benefit from, they're just verbally vomiting.
