Spiderweb Software Cuts Prices 10% for October

Spiderweb Software Cuts Prices 10% for October

by , 3:20 PM EDT, October 4th, 2007

Spiderweb Software has cut prices on all its games, CDs, bundles, and even previously discounted products for the month of October.

On Thursday, the company said, tounge-in-cheek, "Spiderweb, in a spasm of depression caused by the typically miserable Seattle autumn weather, has decided to cheer itself up by having a sale. The prospect of the next six months of unrelenting darkness, gloom, and Pacific northwest moisture has driven this small, independent game company to offer 10% off on all of its products for the month of October."

Spiderweb software specializes in role-playing games for Mac and Windows.

How DARE they cut the price! Don't they know that this reduces the profit I could have made by selling one of their games? It's price discrimination, pure and simple. Maybe I should sue for $15,000,000,000,000,000 for the suffering and agony they caused me. [/tongue-in-cheek mode]

{NB: For those who haven't been following the news, someone in New York has sued Apple for cutting the price of the iPhone, in part because it reduced the profit she could make by selling the phone.}

Funny, I live in Nanaimo BC, just north of Seattle and the weather has been pretty good the last few weeks. Maybe their depression is due to too much coffee.

EDIT: Corrected city spelling. It's been a long day.

Oops--you put an extra "n" in the city name--threw Google off for a bit.

"Pretty good" weather is relative, GD. It's not that dark--yet. Just wait for a couple of months.

It could be worse. You're at about 49° 13' North. I'm 356 miles* further south at 44° 3'. Our friends in the UK and northern Europe are even further north--London is 51° 31' North, Aberdeen, Scotland, is 57° 9' North. Oslo, Norway, is 59° 57' North, Helsinki, Finland is 60° 10' North. Then, there are idiots who choose to live in Alaska: Anchorage is 61° 13' North, and Nome is 64° 25' North. The furthest north major city I found is Hammerfest, Norway, at 70°38' North. That's 1478 miles/2377 km north of you. It will get REALY dark there.

* 1 minute of latitude is 1 nautical mile on most of the earth's surface. (It's slightly different near the poles and the equator because the earth is not quite spherical.) 1 nautical mile is 1.15 statute miles, 1.85 km.

IMO I think the weather here isn't as bad as Eugene/Springfield where I grew up. Similar amounts of rain but less fog and low overcast.

Do not let the trivial discussion of weather divert your attention, o readers! For here we have http://spiderwebsoftware.com/ , lauded maker of some of the best and original shareware Mac games of the late 90s!

How many of us here grew up on Exile and Avernum? RIght there is a reason to keep an old Classic-capable machine around =D
