Nokia Tired of Waiting, Writing iSync Plug-ins

Nokia Tired of Waiting, Writing iSync Plug-ins

by , 2:25 PM EDT, October 9th, 2007

It seems to take a long time for iSync plug-ins to arrive after Nokia releases a new mobile phone. Now, Nokia is writing its own, according to the Downloadsquad.

Ted Wallingford has noticed a vicious cycle. "Nokia introduces a cool new phone. Then six months go by. Then six more. Finally, Apple releases an OS X update to roll support for the cool new phone into iSync. Only problem is, by the time the iSync update hits general release, the phone isn't new any more. "

The author considered that unacceptable, especially for those who live on the cutting edge. Apparently, Nokia agrees, and has started releasing their own, just weeks after a new phone is released.

It was noted that just about every Nokia phone is now supported, including the new N- and E-series.

Subject: It took Nokia HOW long to figure this out?

Why did Nokia sit on its/their butt(s) waiting for Apple to write the iSync plug-ins? It would be in their interest to have a plug-in available when a phone is released.

The other question, of course, might be why every new phone requires a new plug-in.

No word from them on iSync plugins...

Subject: Samsung doesn't care

If it's not Bluetooth, Samsung doesn't care about Mac syncing. Their data cables don't work with Macs, the USB cables won't even charge their phones from a Mac, unlike Nokia and Motorolas phones.

Too bad too. I left Nokia and Motorola behind because I like my Samsung slide phone. They just seem to be a bit behind in peripheral support.

Subject: Awesome, NOW I can use e2Sync and put Entourage on my N95

I bought e2Sync so I could sync Entourage to my Nokia N95, but of course the N95 was not in iSync yet, and so e2Sync refused to work with it. Now I guess it will because e2Sync says they work with ANY iSync compatible device. Awesome. If you need to sync Entourage, I have found e2Sync to be flawless, though I see that some do have issues with it, though I haven't.

Subject: Its true

I've used the Nokia plugin for my N75 for several months. Its not without flaws however, and just recently its been adding 8 hours to the times in my Calendar appointments.
