OWC Offers Mac Pro Memory at All Time Low

by , 1:45 PM EDT, October 10th, 2007

Other World Computing announced on Wednesday that memory prices for the Apple Mac Pro have reached an all time low of US$64.31 per gigabyte.

The pricing means that Mac Pro customers can install 16 GB of RAM in their Mac Pro for only US$1,029. That's about one fourth of the factory cost. These prices are for 512 MB x 2, 1 GB x 2 and 4 GB x 2 kits. The OWC 4 GB x 2 kits provide for up to 32 GB of RAM in the Mac Pro.

"OWC Memory is fully-tested premium quality memory that meets or exceed all Apple specifications. Utilizing superior components, including true Apple-Qualified heat spreaders, the memory modules provide a lifetime of high-performance, reliable operation backed by a Money Back Guarantee and OWC’s Lifetime Advance Replacement Warranty," an OWC spokesperson said on Wednesday.

OWC is also offering RAM for the Apple Xserve for as low as $68.75 per gigabyte.

OWC has an easy to use RAM shopping guide that allows users to select their model and desired upgrade.

As memory prices drop, we will continue to lose jobs in the memory sales sector of the economy. People will just buy what they need and then stop buying memory. I can't wait until 2008. But it may be too late then for Hillary to institute price supports and save this vital industry.

Let me get this straight. You're saying that if the government regulates the price of memory that we'll all be better off? Let me know how innovation will ever happen in a regulated, uncompetitive market. Look at Canada and the CTRC. We can't get an iPhone, because the telecom's have a government supported monopoly which enables them to charges prices higher than 3rd world countries. Why would Apple sell a product that people can't afford to fully use?

Boy, I sure wish every government had a hand in regulating technology. We could be totally rid of those pesky entrepreneurs and their innovations.

What we need for the ecomony is not to worry about old technoloy dieing...it is inevitable. A company that doesn't want to die needs to reinvent itself, invest in new technologies, and not be afraid of doing something different. If it doesn't do these things, they will surely lose their market, employees, and name.

Looks like Bosco caught another one.

Guest: do two things, in whichever order:

1. Register and log in. Otherwise, you will be credited with everything any guest posts, including the truly stupid and abusive, as there is no way to tell one anonymous poster from another. Join the hundreds of people who register and log in. You can choose a username and avatar by which others will get to know you, but TMO won't reveal your name, email address, etc. without your permission.

2. Read some of Bosco's other posts. While sometimes Bosco's humor falls flat (as, IMO, this one did), at other times it hits the mark squarely and can be quite funny. The only problem may be trying to tell when Bosco is serious. (One hint: if the post appears sarcastic or off the wall, it probably isn't meant to be taken seriously. Here, the last sentence should have been a dead giveaway.) We can be thankful that Bosco is creative and writes well, unlike the "fakesteveballmer" who has been spouting off recently.

If you're scoring at home, I get 1 point for that. And it's sad too because I scored that point using someone who truly gets the concept of creative destruction as popularized by Schumpeter. Let it never be said that Bosco doesn't eat his own.

Anyway... Guest, I owe you one.

You got me. I was in quick-scan mode and totally missed your sarcasm. In fact, the only reason I left a comment was that it seemed so off the wall.

And I thought I was taking down a crazed political nut bent on pushing an agenda. Oops. :-[

Good for a laugh both times now.
