NewerTech Offers PowerMac G4 CPU Upgrades for Leopard

Newer Technology, Inc. announced on the immediate availability of MaxPower PowerPC G4/7448 CPU upgrades for selected PowerMac G4 systems that don't currently meet Apple's recommended speed requirements for Leopard.
NewerTech said that the upgrades have been tested and are compatible with the AGP Graphics/Sawtooth, Gigabit Ethernet, Digital/Audio, and Quicksilver model PowerMac G4 computers and are verified for compatibility with Mac OS X 10.5, "Leopard."

Introduced in March 2007 as the world's first available and shipping G4 7448 processor upgrade, the MAXPower Processor Upgrade gives PowerMac G4 owners with less than the Leopard-required 867 MHz processor speed the hardware support needed to run Leopard. Additionally, by adding a MAXPower Processor Upgrade, PowerMac G4 owners can experience better performance from existing applications, as well as the ability to run new processor demanding applications, according to Newertech.
NewerTech also said the latest generation Freescale 7448 processors and are 100 percent compatible with existing hardware, application software, and previous and current versions of Mac operating systems, OS 9.2.2 and OS X 10.3.5 or later with no operating system modifications needed. The upgrades are user installable in about 10 minutes.
NewerTech MAXPower G4/7448 Processor Upgrades are available in four configurations: 1.8GHz single, 2.0GHz single, 1.7-1.73GHz DUAL, and 1.8GHz DUAL, priced starting at $349.00.

I've already read reviews of people who tried installing Leopard on Macs that had upgrade cards in them, but that it read the machine ID and knows it's not up to the "specs".
Do these have some "trick" to make the installer skip over that part of the verification process? Do others? Very curious as I have a G4 1.6 GHz in my AGP tower and I'm wondering if it's a messy, if not lost cause, to even consider it.

Leopard wouldn't install on my Dual G4 867 MHZ, the "Mirror Drive Door" model and from what I read that model should meet the minimum specs. I will probably try it tomorrow, but I am going to experiment with something.
I first installed Leopard on an external hard drive so I could check compatibility with Creative Suite 2 and FileMaker 7 (both work fine thus far). So I am going to take that external drive to the G4 and see if it will boot and run programs without smoking. If so, I will restore the external hard drive to one of the internal hard drives. If it bricks the Mac, well then a new one is in the offing anyway.

Geez, after reading the horror stories of people on the web, I'm reticent to even go ahead with an install on my Dual 1.2GHz MDD G4. The Blue Screen of Death is never welcome and this machine is a production workhorse. Backing it up alone takes overnight. I can't take it down anytime soon, much less the potential downtime if it does crash the install. Maybe AFTER I buy a new Mac. Been waiting on new towers. Hopefully, not much longer.
