Apple Notes Conflict Between Aperture and Time Machine

Apple Notes Conflict Between Aperture and Time Machine

by , 12:55 PM EST, November 5th, 2007

Apple has noted a conflict between Aperture and Time Machine and has suggested excluding the Aperture library from automatic backups.

In support article # 306853, Apple said that "running Time Machine backup or restore operations while Aperture is running may lead to inconsistencies in the Aperture database."

A procedure is described that eliminates Aperture from Time Machine backups and notes that users should manually backup their Aperture library.

Since Time Machine backups are apparently scheduled with launchd, I wonder how hard it would be to modify the launch agent to run the backup only if Aperture is not running.

Just FYI, Apple is reporting this issue is resolved in 10.5.2
