Dualy Adds 802.11b/g/n to USB Macs

by , 7:50 AM EST, November 20th, 2007

QuickerTek announced the immediate availability of its USB-based 802.11b/g/n Dualy wireless network adapter on Tuesday. The adapter includes two 500 milliwatt transceivers, dual 3 dBi antennas, and can potentially offer better signal strength than a Mac's built-in AirPort hardware.

The Dualy is designed to clip to Mac laptops, but also works with Apple's desktop computers. It requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or higher, is Leopard compatible, and supports any USB-equipped Mac including older models like the G4 Cube.

QuickerTek's Dualy is available at the company Web site and is priced at US$324.95.

Seriously.. $325 for a device that "can potentially offer better signal strength than a Mac's built-in AirPort hardware"?

The only time I tried a USB-Wireless dongle (admittedly from D-Link) it was a little $30 cheapy that caused kernel panics. If anybody tries using this on an older G4 tower (USB 1.1 or USB2 through PCI card) please post and report performance.

Its a little pricey though...I guess it probably enables really long range reception to be worth the money. I see they have cheaper products, again I guess its up to how much range you need?
