Subject: Great Value

Having recently bought a 1TB Lacie drive for use with Time Machine, and several other drives over the years, I believe these are great drives and great value for the money. They are also solid and reliable.

That media drive looks interesting. I'll have to check out and see what sort of connectivity it has.

Well, perhaps. However, consider that these are not very "new." They represent a speed bump, a slightly different case design--and a higher price. The older d2 quadra drives had burst speeds of up to 80-90 MB/s for eSATA, 65-75 MB/s for FW 800. The new models have burst speeds of up to 105-115 MB/s for eSATA, 75-85 mB/s for FW 800. The prices for a 500 GB drive list at $250, vs $220 for the older model. You'll have to decide whether the speed increase is worth the higher price.

Oh, yeah: the new drives have a "shortcut" button on the front to launch an application when connected by FireWire or USB 2. That should be really useful. [/sarcasm]
