Apple's QuickTime 7.4 Cripples Adobe After Effects

Apple's QuickTime 7.4 Cripples Adobe After Effects

by , 1:20 PM EST, January 23rd, 2008

Apple's QuickTime 7.4 is causing problems with Adobe's After Effects, according to a discussion on Apple's Support Forum. There are indications that Apple knows about the problem and is working on it.

Some users, including professionals who work at TV stations, are pleading with Apple to fix the problem quickly. A few have found work arounds and have described them. Some have used Time Machine to put their Mac back into a previous state. Others are scrambling to find Macs without the update.

One user wrote: "I just wrote Apple Support an e-mail requesting acknowledgement of the problem and some indication that they're working on it. I'll post anything I hear."

Subject: Security?

I get the feeling that Apple is quietly beefing up software security and maybe that is the cause of this software conflict.

Thanks for reporting this. It's a good thing we haven't updated QuickTime at the office yet. That would have seriously messed up production next week.

Does this include the new update for After Effects?

Seeing it here. I'm having trouble with renders that take longer than about ten minutes.

Subject: Pacifist fixed the issue for our deadline

I had this issue two in the midst of a tight motion graphics deadline where I work and it prevented us from using two of our Mac workstations for rendering.

However using Pacafist to install Quicktime 7.3.1 and the previous version of iTunes worked a treat. Now those two machines are back in action.
