Apple Drops Out of NAB Show
Apple Drops Out of NAB Show

Apple has announced that it will not have a booth at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in April, according to TVTechnology on Thursday.
According to the report, Apple is cutting down on its trade show participation.
"Apple is participating in fewer trade shows this year" said Anuj Nayar, senior manager of PR at Apple. "Often there are better ways to reach our customers. The increasing popularity of our retail stores and Apple.com Web site allows us to directly reach more than 100 million customers around the world in innovative new ways."
Apple declined to comment on whether it plans to return in the future. Last year, Avid, a competitor to Apple in that market dropped out as well. Despite the cancellation of Apple's booth at the NAB show, Dennis Wharton, a spokesman for NAB said, "We’re talking about some on-site business opportunities with Apple."

Apple is used by basically the entire industry that NAB caters to. There must have been some pretty big thing that wasn't ready for Apple to just throw in the towel. Maybe they were betting on something big and not working on changing ANYTHING else that was shown last year?
It's disappointing, in any case.
Yeah or the economy is definitely in a downturn and trade shows are usually one of the things that get cut from budgets. And considering that Apple's comment that they have other and better ways to get word on their products out, I'd pretty much take this at face value.
Not everything is secret doom and gloom folks. Sometimes it's just economics.
This growing trend is a shame. I count on attending NAB every other year or so to interact with company representatives. Even when I'm not able to attend, the media reporting from the show allows me to get up-to-speed on what the market is doing. And Apple usually had some pretty nice free training sessions with some great guests. Oh, well.
