EU Raids Intel Offices Over Market Abuse Claims

EU Raids Intel Offices Over Market Abuse Claims

by , 1:30 PM EST, February 12th, 2008

Intel's Munich, Germany, offices were paid a surprise visit on Tuesday when European Union competition regulators raided the facility. The raid spawned from claims that Intel is abusing its market position in Europe, according to the BBC.

Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy confirmed that the raid took place and added "As is our normal practice, we are co-operating with authorities."

The European Commission only said that it had conducted "unannounced inspections" at a chip maker's offices. It appears that EU inspectors may have also raided the offices of several of Intel's part suppliers including DSG International.

The investigation began when Intel competitor AMD made claims that Intel rewarded customers with rebates and incentives for delaying or canceling orders for AMD-based products.

A closed hearing of Intel's case is scheduled for March 11 and 12 in Brussels. Intel claims it has done nothing wrong and is "confident" that it has acted within the law.

Subject: AMD Sucks

AMD Sucks anyway. Intel delivers a fully integrated and innovative system that works. I've hand assembled hundreds of computers. The only one's we see returned for faulty hardware are the systems that run AMD processors... why? Because AMD doesn't make boards, and the suppliers that make AMD compatible boards do a poor job of it. Don't care if they're the underdog.. that's not what it's about. It's about delivering a system that works.. not a standalone chip. If AMD doesn't deliver a fully integrated system that works they're not getting orders from me. I recommend all my clients run Intel boards and processors—they always work. I haven't produced one faulty Intel board and process system in years... where as the punk gamers that think they know something come in with their faulty gigabyte or asus/AMD systems and out cry that it just failed. I buy good parts for AMD systems.. just to bad the best AMD compatible boards are crap compared to the bottom of the barrel Intel boards—in terms of quality of construction

The counter argument is that AMD could compete if Intel wasn't always making things unfair.. HELLO, duh! If AMD tried to be more innovative and practiced more business sense, not to mention quit whining about how unfair business is they probably would do better. They make poor decisions, where as Intel has made good ones, that have culminated in them being the underdog... a business becomes what it is today.
