Yahoo! Mail Arrives for Safari 3
Yahoo! Mail Arrives for Safari 3
by , 3:25 PM EST, February 13th, 2008
An all new Yahoo! mail is now available for Safari 3 on Mac OS X, according to Yahoo! on Wednesday. Previously, Mac users were required to use Firefox to access both Classic Yahoo! mail and the new Yahoo! mail.
The support extends to Safari 3 on both Mac OS X 10.4.11 and any version of Leopard, 10.5.x.
"Our guys have been working feverishly to make sure that everything works as intended. Some have even made the occasional trip down the road to "The Mother-ship," said Ryan K., the Community Manager of Yahoo! Mail.
"The rollout is already underway, and we hope to have the updates out to most of you within the next couple weeks. Once it’s completed, folks running the most recent update of Tiger (OS 10.4.11), as well as those using any version of Leopard (OS 10.5.x), will have a version of Safari that plays nice with the All-New Yahoo! Mail. Or maybe it’s a version of Safari that the All-New Mail plays nice with. Either way, they are pals now, and that’s what really matters," said the Yahoo! Mail Manager in his Blog.
"With this Safari 3.0 roll-out, the latest version of the world's most popular Webmail service will be available to an even broader audience of Mac users," according to a spokesperson for Yahoo!
Observer Comments
Never had a problem with new or classic Yahoo Mail in Safari 2 or 3, I use classic mainly because the new UI is fugly, but yeah this is fixing a problem I was unaware of as a relatively heavy user of the service.
Maybe this will address all the Yahoo Messenger and other wider Yahoo features that are PC only, like their Avatar system? Probably not ![]()
I went to My Yahoo and logged in after reading this story.
I got Hmmm…your browser is not officially supported. THe all new Yahoo mail has not been tested etc…
I'm using OSX 10.5.2 Leopard.
Oh well. The reason I stopped using Yahoo email and went to gmail was Yahoo never pushed the email to my iPhones.
Gmail works.

I am glad Yahoo is officially supporting Safari 3. FireFox and the new Yahoo Mail would not work on my Clamshell iBook running Tiger because the maximum screen resolution of my Clamshell is 800x600 and the New Yahoo mail would not work at the reduced screen depth. It would not work at 800x600 with Safari either and just send me back to Classic Yahoo Mail.
Since the new Yahoo Mail is officially supporting Safari 3, I can get into the New Yahoo Mail with just 800x600 screen depth -- but still not in FireFox.
Yahoo's development team and Safari 3 have brought my Clamshell out of obsolescence.
