Apple's Tuesday Ritual: Online Store is Down
by , 7:45 AM EST, February 19th, 2008
In what appears to be part of Apple's weekly schedule now, the Cupertino company's online store went down on Tuesday morning. Prior weeks brought the launch of a pink iPod nano, updated iPhone and iPod touch models, and Aperture 2. The highly anticipated new MacBook Pro, however, has yet to make an appearance.

You've got to hand it to Apple's marketing department. Bringing down the online store in the middle of the day for a couple of minor product updates? There's is simply no technical reason for it. WebObjects, which drives their store, would have to be a horrible web application if it can't be updated on the fly (imagine if Amazon operated that way) AND Apple's engineers are too lazy to perform their updates overnight like every other company that has to bring down production apps to make updates.
Nope, nothing more than a publicity stunt to get our attention on something that would otherwise not be newworthy. And it works beautifully!
