YML: Apple Over-promising and Under-delivering

by , 2:50 PM EST, March 5th, 2008

Your Mac Life (YML), with Shawn King, which airs every Wednesday night, will talk about how Apple seems to be over-promising and under-delivering lately.

"What's going on at One Infinite Loop?" Mr. King asked. "Have you noticed how many times in the past 18 months Apple has announced a product or ship date, only to have it fade away into the calendar, sometimes with no acknowledgement from Apple?

"Leopard, the iPhone SDK, 1000 movies on the Apple TV, Time Capsule....all over-promised and under-delivered by Apple. On tonight's Your Mac Life, we'll discuss these issues and dissect what we think is wrong and what causes it - served up with some suggestions of our own to fix the problem.

"On Tuesday, Apple had its annual shareholders meeting and, as usual, the exciting was almost swallowed whole by the mundane. We'll discuss the meeting and the (sometimes) important news that came out of it."

YML is videocast each Wednesday night from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM Pacific Time or from 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM Eastern Time. An audio only version only is also available.

Yes, Apple is horrible. I am dumping them and going to Ubuntu. Thank you for letting people know about how horribly late these things are.

Get real! You Have got to be Kidding. M$ misses by Years!

Sure I would love them to hit every date to the day, but honestly, something new released every week for the last 6 weeks and you are worried about 700 vs 1000 movies, or 6 days on the SDK.

Get Real!

He's as bad as professional "Analysts" who haven't a clue.

"Apple promised a 10 on the Excite-O-Meter for (insert item) but it only scored a 9.8. Listen to me explain why Apple is failing terribly and should be considered a disaster."

I mean it, people like this should be slapped back to their senses.

Was he not paying attention througout February? Lots of stuff delivered then.
Or maybe he keeps forgetting that rumor sites are NOT official Apple prounouncements.

Overpromising and underdelivering? Huh? Perhaps Mr. King looked in the mirror this morning and realized that when you are forced to pay for the portable version of a podcast, you lose 85% of your listener - and he just decided he needs to ditch the rest of his audience.

YML is not available for download to your iPod - unless you think it's worth real cash money - I wouldn't give Mr. King 5 cents for his 'cast - let alone $.95 per episode. Not even Ricky Gervais was able to make that model work.

Has he never dealt with the federal government? Talk about over-promising and underdelivering...for the past 5 decades.

...and how exactly, madam/sir, did this hurt you?

Aren't we all sick of morons with no lives trying out dramatic terms and declarations, to see how they fit?

Isn't it time to start dealing with life and it's harsher realities, than to look for this to blow out of proportion and make exaggerated, false and malicious headlines with?

Get Real! - When Apple issues conservative guidance and beats it -the crowd cries out that Apple duped it, or sandbagged it by deliberately under promising.

Now over a tiny hiccup that only assures a sound and better product - Apple Over promises...

Can't anyone take reality as it comes and consider that:

A. It's not always as dramatic as made out to be and
B. Not everything is black or white...there's also 16,000,000 shades of grey...

Subject: King is Atrocious -

King is one of the very worst of the supposedly 'pro Apple' commentators out there. His predictions are mistaken time and time again, and he'll tweak Apple, at every opportunity.

The sad thing is that some actually pay money for his drivel. Likely that's his purpose, i.e. to make iinflammatory comments, just to get people riled up, so they continue to support his inane show.

The third comment above, has it right - who listens to this clown?

I remember the underwhelming introduction of the iPod, a product that transformed Apple.

Subject: I think to many depend on rumor sites

Rumor sites seem to be putting people into this mindset that they have the official word from Apple as to exactly when Apple will release a product. Nothing could be further from the truth!! Apple delivers a product when they feel it is ready to be released, and not before! I would rather wait a few short weeks for a complete product rather than get it on exactly the date specified only to have a product that doesn't work at all or barely works. You know like Microsoft and Vista. 7 years to find out that most things still didn't work even today. Go to Ubunto, see how well it DOESN'T RUN! See how HARD IT IS TO INSTALL that linux CRAP! Wait a very LOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGG time for software to be released. Don't kid yourself, OSX is far superior and polished compared to any linux out there. Apple is getting the job done far faster than any company today and doing a great job with quality as well. This is FUD plain and simple. You listen to the rumor sites and take it as Gods word you are in for disappointment.

Subject: Guilt by Innuendo?

Until it's hits home and someone looses a member of their family to "mob Mentality guilt by innuendo, maybe it won't be clear.

Innocent until proven guilty.

Apple is and always has been the Oracle of computer technology - Even Bill Gates would agree.

Subject: The real Shawn King

It's about time people realize who Shawn King is. He was on our email list a long time ago, but never participated until he saw some statement that he could dump on while belittling the poster. If you disagreed with his arrogance, he would attack you. As someone said above, his predictions were mostly wrong as well. His 'insider' contacts are wishful BS. (Adobe was supposedly 'furious' over what turned out to be iPhoto.) When someone posted a link to a news item referring to his new show with a congratulatory message, he actually laughed at them. I guess we didn't deserve to know him. I think he was finally banned. Just a horrible personality. He is not a good representative of the Mac community in general, and should not be encouraged or supported. I'm glad his big mouth is finally making this obvious. There are many Mac-focused, or simply Mac/PC open-minded, podcasts out there like TWiT or anything with Amber Mac. They are actually intelligent, objective and fun.
