Detailed Changes to Penryn MacBook Pros Posted

by , 5:00 PM EST, March 5th, 2008

EveryMac has posted the exact details of the changes from the "Mid-2007/Santa Rosa" MacBok Pro models to the "Early 2008/Penryn" models. The story notes the new way Apple measures battery life and that the 17-inch models still use CCFL backlighting. In addition, there are changes to the keyboard in the new models.

"It's also worth noting that Apple changed how the company measures battery life for the 'Early 2008/Penryn' models," the article said. "For the 'Mid-2007/Santa Rosa' systems, Apple reported that the 15-Inch models provided 6 hours and the 17-Inch model 5.75 hours of battery life -- with wireless off. For the 'Early 2008/Penryn' systems, the company reports that the 15-Inch models provide 5 hours and the 17-Inch model 4.5 hours -- but this is for 'wireless productivity'."

EveryMac: One of three comparison charts

Those who are looking for the exact technical differences betwen the low end 15-inch, high end 15-inch and the 17-inch models across the two generations will find this very useful.

Comparison should be 2.4Ghz and 2.4Ghz! Not compared to 2.5Ghz! Not realistic comparison!

They lined them up by price and compared the new ones with the exact same-priced old one. Which makes perfect sense since most people want to know what new stuff they can get for the same amount of money as last month could have bought them.

I don't care how Apple "measures" battery life. I have never gotten over 1.5-2 hrs. of battery life from my 15" powerbook nor my 15" Macbookpro 2.1 ghz.
no matter what I have been doing. Apple seriously misrepresents battery life.
Also the capacity of the many new batteries I have needed to buy is quickly reduced after only a few charges to 90% or less- even after following Apples recommendations for re-calibrating the battery
