Apple Releases MacBook Pro Firmware Update 1.5.1

Apple Releases MacBook Pro Firmware Update 1.5.1

by , 7:50 AM EDT, April 22nd, 2008

Apple released MacBook Pro Firmware Update 1.5.1 on Monday. The release notes state the updater "fixes several issues to improve the stability of MacBook Pro computers," but don't offer any additional details.

Like other firmware updates, this one includes an installer application that must be run to complete the process even if Apple's Software Update application was used to download the updater. The updater utility, called MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update.app, will be installed in /Applications/Utilities.

MacBook Pro Firmware Update 1.5.1 is free and available via the Software Update application, or as a downloadable installer at the Apple Support Web site.

Subject: Not for Penryn

Just as an FYI, this update is apparently NOT needed on the newest, Penryn-based, MacBook Pro computers that came out in late February. Presumably it's for some or all of the earlier models.

Subject: Firmware 1.5.1 update

I have a late 2008 BTO MacBook Pro 2.6Ghz Santa Rosa DC and interestingly the original 1.5 firmware according to Software Update was not required. This most recent edition 1.5.1 did take???? Leaves you wondering just what was the difference

Subject: Causes External Display Issues

I have two macbook pros and they both no longer work correctly with external displays as a result of this update. See also: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=1594 for information about this upgrade. If you use multiple monitors or external displays, don't perform this upgrade.
