Psystar Mac Clone Delivered (with video)

Psystar Mac Clone Delivered (with video)

by , 3:00 PM EDT, April 28th, 2008

A Psystar customer took delivery of his Open Computing Mac clone and published a video of the startup process to show that it's really running Mac OS X, according to Gizmodo on Monday. However, software updates are not enabled and the computer's cooling fans seemed a bit noisy. A healthy discussion of the OSx86 project ensued.

The customer identified the video cable coming from the Psystar computer to the Dell monitor so there would be no doubt about the source of the video signal.

To date, there has been no comment from Apple about this product. Also, it remains to be seen how many of the units have been ordered and delivered.

when the YouTuber video came out last week they showed their computers running OS-X, plus, Ubuntu and WinXP. This was the first time that I had heard they were delivering non OS-X systems.

Could they be expecting to loose to Apple and have to stop selling OS-X systems? Could this be a very clever ploy to got GOBS of free advertizing for Psystar, plus sell a few OS-X systems to boot (no pun intended). A year from now they will be one of many small local XP/Linux PC clone builders, but now everyone has head of Psystar

Ever since day 1 they have offered OS X, Ubuntu, Vista, XP, and no operating system installed.

I guess I missed that.

But the question stands.

Apparently, MacWorld (can I say that here?) have ordered a Psystar for speed testing, etc. They have already reviewed an OpenOS DIY rig, and reported that it's about the same speed as a low-end iMac.
