PC Mag: New iMac is Still the One to Beat
PC Mag: New iMac is Still the One to Beat

PC Magazine took Apple's new 24-inch iMac out for a spin and found it to be a worthy successor to the models it replaces. Thanks to its faster Intel Core 2 Duo processor, the new iMac maintains "its place in the vanguard of all-in-one PCs."
The new 24-inch iMac sports a 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo processor, an ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO video card, a 320GB hard drive, 2GB of RAM, and a SuperDrive. PC Magazine called the new iMac "well equipped," and "bloatware free."
The performance boost from the faster processors and video cards found in the new iMacs is welcome, but may not be enough to warrant an upgrade unless your current computer is more than three years old.
On the down side, there aren't any built-in media card slots for downloading pictures, a feature many non-Mac PCs have; the included Mighty Mouse doesn't conform to the styling of standard PC mice; and a Blu-ray compatible drive isn't included.
Despite the perceived short comings, the new iMac is still one of the best all-in-one computer options available, and for some users has enough horse power to meet pro user needs without the Mac Pro's price tag.
"Even though there are a slew of new competitors to the iMac, none of them have quite enough innovation or execution to dethrone the king of the all-in-one desktops," PC Magazine said.

Your downsides you mentioned weren't really at all.... "mouse that doesn't conform to the styling of Standard PC mice"... well thank god!!! the mighty mouse is all a "standard pc" mouse is and more, have you actually used the ball scroll in excel, safari, or photoshop???? Blu-ray... oh no! Lack of Media card slots??? big deal! I, like many have a mini usb constantly hanging off my PC, connect up my camera and iphoto does the rest... you have to try it to understand.. no cad slot... pfff.. I'm not a fan boy, but you are really scraping the barrel with the, what did you call them "short comings"....

Please read carefully before bashing. Jeff quotes PC Mag, he does not state his very own opinions.
It's funny how even this comprehensive review did not mention the glare issue, which is caused not so much by the glossy screen, but the glass in front of the screen. I went to the Apple store this weekend to take a look -- it was brutal.
The glare is identical to that on my iPhone, but the entire iPhone screen is always filled when you're using it so it's not an issue. On a 24 inch display, you're going to see your reflection all day, especially if like me you have an office on a high floor with a window facing south. No iMac for me unfortunately.
