MacTech Releases Office Scripting Advisor
by , 1:00 PM EDT, May 14th, 2008
MacTech has released the MacTech Office Scripting Advisor, a set of guidelines and questions designed to assist users with the best scripting options in Microsoft Office.
The announcement came hot on the heels of Microsoft's announcement on Monday that VBA will be returning to the next version of Office for Mac. The Scripting Advisor gives Office scripting users the answers they need.
"The choices for scripting Microsoft Office took another big jump today. It's important for people to make the right choices, as they are choices they will have to live with for a while," said Neil Ticktin, Editor-in-Chief/Publisher, MacTech Magazine. "MacTech has been the authoritative source on VBA transitions on the Mac, and today that continues with the MacTech Office Scripting Advisor."
When Microsoft announced that Office 2008 for Mac would not support VBA scripting, MacTech launched a project to allow users to achieve the same results with AppleScript. The result was the VBA to AppleScript Transition Guide. Even if customers elect to return to VBA, the next version of Office for Mac is years away.
The MacTech Office Scripting Advisor will help users plan for the future and make decisions about the relative advantages of each solution and future deployment.
