NewerTech Intros "Green" RAID

by , 9:25 AM EDT, June 13th, 2008

NewerTech announced the immediate availability of the Guardian MAXimus eMAX external RAID-1 mirrored hard drive on Friday. The company called the 1TB drive its first "green" storage drive because of its lower energy consumption.

NewerTech claims the drive is RoHS certified, and offers a 15 percent power savings compared to other low-powered 1TB external drives, or up to 50 percent compared to traditional 1TB drives.

The Guardian MAXimus eMAX includes two FireWire 800 ports, a FireWire 400 port, a USB 2.0 port, interface cables, Prosoft Engineering's Data Backup 3, NovaStor's NovaBACKUP, and SpeedTools Utilities from Intech.

It is priced at US$549.99 and is available at the Other World Computing Web site.

Keep in mind, many "green" drives have slower spindle speeds.
