Apple COO: Steve Jobs Has No Plans to Leave Apple

Apple COO: Steve Jobs Has No Plans to Leave Apple

by , 6:00 PM EDT, July 21st, 2008

Despite a report in the New York Post saying that an unspecified "many" have ongoing concerns about the health of Steve Jobs, Apple COO Tim Cook told analysts Monday that Mr. Jobs isn't going anywhere.

"Ben, Steve loves Apple," Mr. Cook said in response to a question about Mr. Jobs' health from Lehman Brothers analyst Ben Reitzes. "[Mr. Jobs] serves at the CEO at the pleasure of Apple's board and has no plans to leave Apple. Steve's health is a private matter."

Mr. Reitzes cited "a New York newspaper" by way of preface when asking his question, referring to a story in the Post saying that investors were waiting a report on Mr. Jobs health. Apple has recently maintained the line that the health of its CEO is a private matter after Mr. Jobs appeared thin during the World Wide Developer's Conference in June.

Citing a number of unnamed sources, the Post said that there was still a lot of concern concerning his health. The only named source the article cited was Andrew Hargreaves, an analyst with Pacific Crest Securities, who said that trading in shares of AAPL "likely" reflects these concerns. The article then hedges by adding "at least partially."

The article was illustrated by a particularly unpleasant-looking image of Mr. Jobs from the WWDC conference.

How many agree that Jobs obviously failing health is a private matter? I don't think Apple's board is taking this lightly.
Question: How much would Apple's stock decline if and when Jobs is no longer at Apple? What value does his stewardship have in Dollars and Cents???
Discuss.

His health is a private matter as far as the general public is concerned, but it is a matter for the Board and I would bet that they have contingency plans. Of course Apple stock would drop if Steve dropped, but as long as we have Jonathan Ives and the other great Apple designers and engineers we will continue to get great stuff. They would need a good leader, one with vision, you can't just hire some CEO who is more interested in the next quarter and selling "me too" stuff.

Poor american readers,

Because most of you get fattier year by year, that does not necessarily mean that this means health.

It could be that being skinny is a sign of vitality, and being fat is a sign of decadence.

Could be.
