Keyboard Maestro 3.4 Adds Macro Trigger Support
by , 8:10 AM EDT, August 18th, 2008
Stairways Software announced the immediate availability of Keyboard Maestro 3.4 on Monday. The update for the keyboard shortcut enhancement application added Type String triggers, or the ability to invoke macros when specific character combinations are typed.
Version 3.4 also added the ability to display only active macros in Macro Groups Palettes, updated the New Program and Window switcher windows, removed the PreserveOldClipboard hidden preference, fixed several bugs, and more.
Keyboard Maestro 3.4 is priced at US$36, and is available for download at the Keyboard Maestro Web site. The update is free for version 3 users.
Observer Comments
I have used QK for years, but always had "issues" with it. First, the ability to group macros into a single palette is limited to 10. If you have more than 10 options to a color palette, or views in a CAD program, you are out of luck. I have almost 70 macros for my CAD program alone.
KM has no limit and allows you to put any title text into the individual macro field, something QK does not allow.
I also find KM to be faster operating, with fewer hiccups and missed commands.
Third, QK has not been updated for several years and costs $100. KM at under $40 is a much better buy. ![]()
