Apple Campus Fire Damage Hits $2M

Apple Campus Fire Damage Hits $2M

by , 9:50 AM EDT, August 18th, 2008

Apple's Cupertino campus was the location of a three alarm fire on August 12, and now it looks like the damage total will hit US$2 million. The cause of all that damage was most likely construction-related, according to Santa Clara Country Fire Department captain Daron Pisciotta.

Apparently the fire started after construction workers had been welding on the building roof.

Firefighters were called to the scene late in the evening after Apple employees reported smoke in the area and a possible fire on top of the Valley Green Six building at the company's California headquarters. Over 60 firefighters from the Santa Clara County, San Jose, Saratoga, and Los Altos fire departments responded to the incident before the fire was extinguished.

The fire burned the roof and second level of the building, and no injuries were reported. The building, however, suffered from smoke, fire and water damage.

Does anyone know what Apple DOES in that building?

Perhaps it was due to an ipod nano that started the fire in the first place.

Yep, it was in the welder's underpants.

According to the San Jose Mercury News it was mostly for housing servers, but said that the servers were not related to MobileMe service.
