Sorry, more like bored as we ride out Gustav in Baton Rouge.

Bored, but grateful it's not as bad as predicted.

Isn't their a degree of irony in not having to work on Labor Day? Not that I'd know. There's no rest for the IT team.

Hey Tiger, Keep your head down. Even "not as bad" is a lot worse than anything we get up here.

I'm not familiar with the background of the US Labor Day (I know, my friend Mr WIkipedia could tell me), but the New Zealand Labour Day (last Monday in October I think) commemorates the movement in the 19th century by a Wellington builder, Samuel Parnell, who refused to work more than eight hours a day. Eight hours work, eight hours sleep, eight hours play.

So in a way, we're having some time off because if Parnell hadn't put his foot and his tools down, we would have been working much longer hours!

Off to work...

According to Wikipedia (now linked from the article):

Labor Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September. The holiday originated in 1882 as the Central Labor Union (of New York City) sought to create "a day off for the working citizens".
