Adobe to Host CS4 Webcast Sept 23

by , 5:35 PM EDT, September 2nd, 2008

The graphics world will finally get a glimpse at Creative Suite 4 on September 23 thanks to a special Webcast Adobe has planned for the day. The event will mark the public unveiling of Creative Suite 4, which includes core design applications like InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Dreamweaver.

The Webcast will be shown at different times around the world, and requires registration to receive viewing instructions.

Adobe has not announced when Creative Suite 4 will ship, or how much full Creative Suite packages and upgrades will cost.

I have skipped CS3 and am still working with CS2 so I am looking forward to this webcast.

I just had a thought, probably wishful thinking, but suppose there is a new MacBook model announced at the same time.

I'm using InDesign CS2. I would like skip CS3 and upgrade to InDesign CS4, if it still supports PowerPC Macs. If they make a public Beta release of IDCS4, I will probably download it and take it for a spin.

I am pretty sure that it will be Intel only. We PowerPC folks will have to settle for CS2 or CS3. I have no facts to back that up, it is just a hunch and they probably don't want to put the time and money into making it universal.

My biggest problem with CS2 is that Distiller and InDesign don't play well with Leopard. Consequently I have started doing layout using iWork's Pages, printing to PostScript and then distill the file using one of the Macs that run under Tiger. I can, or course, export the Pages job to PDF, but it makes for a bigger PDF file. In my opinion it wouldn't take much to make Pages a serious competitor to InDesign.

That is one of the reasons that I am also hoping for new Macs, it is time for for me to get a new one.

The Adobe Labs web page has down-loadable beta versions of Dreamweaver CS4 and Fireworks CS4 and both require a PowerPC G5 or an Intel-based Mac.

I don't think Adobe will abandon the PowerPC G5 towers with the release of InDesign CS4 but, like you, I have a wait-&-see attitude.
